WEDDING // PART ONE: FLOWERS & CENTERPIECES

May 3, 2017

You guys, I'M MARRIED!!! I still can't believe it. Sometimes I forget and then I stare down at my hand and get all giddy again. I'm totally in the honeymoon phase, okay?! haha!

All I can say is that I am so, so happy to be sharing all of the details from our wedding! We have been married a little over a week, and it has been the best week ever so far! We've been adulting, buying new furniture, and starting to make our apartment as homey as it can be until we purchase our own home. You know that I'll share all of my home decor updates with you, but until then, let's start off with all things wedding!

On Instagram, I asked what you guys would prefer for the wedding posts and it was unanimous for a wedding series! I'm going to break it into three different parts; flowers & centerpieces, the cake, and an overall wedding recap. Alright, let's get started!

If you're crafty, I highly recommend purchasing your flowers from Sam's Club in bulk. It took about two hours of prep work on the flowers--getting rid of the thorns on the roses, trimming the ends, soaking them in water, and pulling off the guard petals aka the ugly ones on the outside. It was almost therapeutic in the midst of the wedding craziness, so I didn't mind this one bit. I had my sister helping me with this process as well! I let the flowers sit in the water for a few hours to get revived a bit as they are shipped completely closed.

The Centerpieces //

To make it easier on myself the next day during the official setup, I made little centerpiece bundles, cut them to size for which mason jar they would be going into, and then I taped them together with green floral tape. This way, all I had to do during setup was cut the floral tape and place them in the correct mason jar or vase!

The centerpieces were a mason jar, a vintage coke bottle (my Mom picked these up a few years ago at a yard sale!) and a small vase (I borrowed these from my bestie, Summer, who got married almost 2 years ago!) All three of these were placed on a slab of wood to tie in the rustic theme. The centerpieces told a story about our relationship, which I loved as well.

Chris and I both love Coke and the color of the vintage bottles, I've loved mason jars for like ever--plus it fit the barn theme, and to tie it all together, we needed a third item, so it made it extra special to have vases from my besties wedding included. I'm so happy with how they turned out. For the table numbers, I found cute ones off Amazon here and the floral picks to hold them here as well!

For the flowers, I used White & Light Pink Roses, Israeli Ruscus, and White Stock from Sam's Club (links are shoppable for you!)

The Bouquets //

For the bouquets, I kept them pretty simple. Unfortunately, since I was going slightly crazy, I forgot to take pictures along the way, so this is the only picture I have of a bouquet. But, don't worry--as soon as I get pics from my photographer, I'll post a pic on Instagram @aclassyfashionista -- Be sure to follow! The bouquet below is the design that my Mom, MIL, and flower girl carried down the aisle.

I wrapped a portion of the stems in white lace and secured it with pearl corsage pins for the perfect finishing touch. All of my bouquets had Garden Roses, Israeli Ruscus, and White Stock from Sam's Club! (Those are all shoppable links for you, too!)

The Arch //

Eep! This is probably one of my favorite DIY projects I did for the wedding. In the barn, there is a gorgeous stone wall from when it was first built in the 1800's. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the perfect spot for our ceremony. I saw a ton of floral arches on Pinterest, so I made my own version! We hung it a few feet off the wall using a couple 2x4's, this rope on either end, and this closet rod from Home Depot. We stained the closet rod with stain we had at home so that it would blend in with the stone wall in case any of it were to show.

In order for the flowers to stay secure to the closet rod, I soaked and then wrapped this floral oasis around the rod so that the flowers would have water for a few days as well!

First things first, I added as much Israeli Ruscus the floral oasis could handle creating a full effect and it covered the oasis perfectly. For the flowers hanging down, I used floral tape and secured several stems together until it was my desired length on either side.

Once the Israeli Ruscus was all set in place, it was time to add in the flowers. I started with the White Stock (I call it the fancy version of Baby's Breath!) and then I filled in the gaps with White & Light Pink Roses.

Now that I'm a pro arch builder and all, (haha jk!) a big tip is to make sure you get down from the ladder and take a step back. It helps you regain perspective on what you are doing and see any empty spaces you need to fill. It also helped to have my peeps with me to be my extra sets of eyes!

This is the final look! I was obsessed. All of the flower petals on the floor are the guard petals I pulled off the roses before I put them on the arch. Once I took a step back, I loved the way it looked, so I decided to keep them that way. Under the arch is our choice of a unity ceremony: A Cord of Three Strands.

The Aisle Way //

For the Aisle Way, I put flowers in half gallon and pint size mason jars along the sides and scattered leftover flower petals in between. These floral arrangements were part of the pre-made centerpieces, so it made it easy to set them up and move on to another project!

There ya have it! I still can't believe that the wedding has come and gone, but it makes me smile writing these posts, reminiscing about our perfect day. Up next in the series is the cake that my Mom & I made! If you want to see a sneak peek of the cake, be sure to head over to my Instagram!

What's your favorite detail so far? Do you have any flower DIY questions? Be sure to let me know in the comments!

Stay Classy.

xx,
Kristen

  4. This whole set up was beautiful. I know that for my next wedding I definitely want a rustic feel to it like this. It's so elegant but subtle at the same time.

    1. Thanks so much Jasmine! The rustic feel just felt like "home" to me. I grew up in the country riding horses, so to have my wedding in barn, it was a dream. Plus, it's super casual yet elegant all at once.

  5. I was hoping to do something with mason jars myself. I love the idea of using wooden slabs to place the jars on - i hope you don't mind if I take the idea!!

  6. Planning to do my own similarly! two questions: 1. my wedding is a Saturday evening--how early would you recommend ordering the flowers to come: Thursday? Wednesday feels too early to me but some people seem to think that? 2. supplies for the flowers themselves seem to be buckets, scissors, floral tape, pins and ribbon--anything I'm missing? Thanks again for sharing!!

    1. Hi! So sorry I'm just seeing this!! I would definitely recommend delivery on a Wednesday. This will give time for the flowers to open up a bit. When they arrive, they will be pretty much closed and also shipped with their guard petals. I've done several weddings now after mine for family & friends, and we've always done Wednesday delivery and they're PERFECT on Saturday. Supplies--seems like you have it all! My only suggestion--a hot glue gun works wonders to help keep the ribbon on boutonnieres. I hide a little hot glue dot on the back! Hope this helps!! :)
