Sometimes the best rooms are the ones that can do double duty, like a space that’s part fun-filled playroom and part cozy hangout. One way to nail that balance is by mixing bold design elements with playful touches.
For our latest update, we added brick accents to the walls where we already had awkward bump-outs in the walls for pipes. They're next to the built-ins, but they never truly looked built-in until we did this project.
This instantly gave the room a little texture and character and helped the bump-outs look purposeful and like they'd always been there. We were going for an old townhome in the city type vibe. We paired this stunning brick with crisp trim and elegant crown molding, and the space started to feel more intentional and pulled together, like it was designed for both movie nights and playtime.
To set the mood, we painted the “living room” side of the space in Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace, a deep, dramatic blue that makes the area feel like a home theatre. It’s rich and moody, perfect for curling up with popcorn and a good movie.
On the other side, the playroom stays bright and colorful with our custom Jonesy hand-painted mural, so it still feels fun and full of energy for the kids. The brick and new trim act as the perfect bridge between the two vibes, tying the cozy, grown-up feel of the living room side into the cheerful playroom so the whole space feels connected but still distinct. It’s proof that you can have both style and function in one room.
