The Playroom: Designed for Play, Styled with Intention

A special thanks to Hernest for sponsoring this post.

Creating a playroom when you have kids can feel like a constant balance between beautiful and practical. Toys, books, puzzles, and little collections seem to multiply overnight, and it’s easy for the space to start feeling chaotic. But we’ve always believed that a playroom can still feel intentional, cozy, and beautiful, even with kiddos and their toys everywhere.

For us, it was important to design a space that felt just as thoughtfully styled as the rest of our home, while still being a place where the boys could truly play. We leaned into warm textures, cozy furniture, and architectural details that make the room feel special.

The dark accent walls add so much character, and the brick pillars bring in a timeless, almost storybook charm that makes the room feel warm and inviting. Even though it’s a playroom, it still feels elevated and designed with care.

Of course, the heart of the space is how we use it every day. This is where the boys build endless LEGO creations, dump out bins of toys, read books, and let their imaginations run wild. We wanted furniture that could handle real life—pieces that look beautiful but are still functional for a busy family. That’s why adding the Solvind 18" Oak Side Table from Hernest in warm oak was such a perfect fit.

This little table has quickly become one of those pieces that just works in the room. The warm oak tone blends perfectly with the cozy textures and natural elements throughout the space, making it feel like it was meant to be here all along. Crafted from oak with a rich, layered finish that highlights the wood grain, it brings a sense of warmth and durability that’s perfect for a high-traffic family room.

But what we love most is how functional it is. It’s the perfect spot for a lamp, a stack of books, or my coffee while I sit and watch the boys play. Sometimes it holds puzzles we’re working on together, other days it’s where a toy dinosaur or action figure ends up taking a little break. It’s one of those pieces that quietly supports everyday moments without taking over the space.

At the end of the day, that’s really the goal of this room. A playroom should be a place where kids feel free to play, imagine, and make a mess, but it can still be beautiful, cozy, and thoughtfully designed. Creating a space that blends style with real-life function has made this room one of our favorite places in the house. And when the toys are scattered across the floor and the boys are deep in play, it somehow feels even more perfect.

Stay Classy.
xx,
Kristen
